Independence World

At Independence World, we actively advocate on behalf of individuals with a disability that need more care. If a person has to constantly ask their friends, family or volunteers to assist them, it can break down relationships and those that are untrained can injure themselves, ultimately costing the tax payer more. A person may only need a only a few hours extra to stay healthy and happy, we help them get it. If they need 24 hour care, we have also helped people get that. Ask us for advice regarding the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Cairns Parents Advocacy for Arrowsmith Program
The Arrowsmith Program is based on neuroscience research demonstrating that it is possible to address learning difficulties by identifying and strengthening weak cognitive capacities.
Cairns Parents Advocacy for the Arrowsmith Program are a group of parents working toward this program opening in Cairns. We would like the program to be available to school children, young adults and anyone wishing to improve their cognitive weaknesses.

The goal of the Arrowsmith Program is to help participants strengthen the weak cognitive capacities underlying their learning dysfunctions and to enable them to become effective, confident and self-directed learners for life.
It is a Cognitive Therapy Program that does not teach content, but changes the participant’s capacity to learn so that they can understand, absorb, retain, process and use the content. This lays the foundation for learning by strengthening critical cognitive functions necessary for meaningful participation in society. It enables those participating to experience life with strengthened cognitive function and to succeed where before they struggled and often failed.
The program is open for use within a school curriculum or as a stand alone course for those beyond those early years.
