Allied Health Assistant
Health Moves Exercise Physiology now has an allied health assistant Kim Tate on their team. Kim will be working very closely with our exercise physiologists to provide quality exercise interventions to participants. Kim is about to enter her third year of a sports science degree and is a cert VI qualified personal trainer, thus Kim has experience and skills to equip her to work towards the best outcomes for particiapnts. Kim is currently assisting our exercise physiologists in Mossman and Jullatten and has capacity to take new clients in Cairns. All participants will be assessed by an exercise physiologist and will be provided an individualised exercise program and plan, Kim will then guide them through their program and participants will be reviewed at regular intervals to ensure they are on track to meet their goals. Working with a combination of an exercise physiologist and allied health assistant is a great way to access regular services in a budget friendly way.
Kim is extremely passionate about helping people improve their lives through the power of exercise and functional movement. Kim enjoys working with clients of all ages, and looks forward to helping people to move to better health.

Exercise Physiology/ Personal Trainer
Health Moves Exercise Physiology provides exercise physiology, allied health assistant and personal training services to Cairns, Port Douglas, Mossman, Jullatten and surrounds. Our exercise physiologists specialise in musculoskeletal, neurological and mental health conditions such as Multiple sclerosis, multiple sclerosis parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, cerebrovascular accident, autism spectrum disorder, mental illness, global development delay, dementia and motor neurone disease.
We operate out of a private clinic in Cairns with a small but functional gym which caters for participants of all ages and is fully accessible. We also deliver services at public pools, visit participants homes and other gyms if requested. We provide one on one services and a variety of group services that assist participants to not only meet their physical goals but goals relating to social inclusion and community participation.
Our exercise physiologists run the following groups: (Our group exercise sessions are capped at 8 participants and are a mix of clients of all abilities)
· Hydrotherapy 3 days a week at Tobruk Pool
· Move to Health: each participant has an individual program designed to meet their goals
· Falls prevention/ Osteoporosis class
· Diabetes management
· My health for life: lifestyle behaviour change program, great for carers
· Move with women: exercise/ education class for women over 18
The following sessions are delivered by our personal trainer either one on one or in a group:
· Caring for carers: an exercise program designed to ensure carers are taking care of themselves and are functionally equipped to take care of their loved ones
· Female only functional strength and conditioning
· Sports specific strength and conditioning for participants that are, or would like to take part in sports.

Nick is a registered psychologist and director of Far North Kids focusing on providing psychology intervention for children and adolescents within the Cairns and surrounding regions.
Nick has over 6 years clinical experience including working with children and adolescents in both government and nongovernment settings and in rural and remote locations including working for organisations such as headspace and Child and Adolescent mental health teams in both NSW and QLD. He has experience working with a wide variety of presentations among children and adolescent including depression, anxiety, separation anxiety, social phobia, attachment difficulties, ADHD and conduct disorders. Plan managed or self-managed with short term accommodation (STA) or holidays written in their plan can caravan with Katrina and access unique locations normally inaccessible to them on day trips.
Katrina is a disability support worker with more than a decade of experience and holds qualifications in nursing, personal training and nutritional education.
Within the Cairns Region there is limited opportunity for mobile STAs. Let's Get Away Supported Caravan Stays was created to offer participants memories of independence, self empowerment and to find their spark in the Far North.

A residential mental health recovery service that offers 24/7 mental health care, peer support and activities. The team includes community and clinical mental health practitioners, a family engagement worker and peer support worker. Planned programs provide a blend of group and one-to-one activities to support your needs and recovery goals. Staying at Cairns CCU is voluntary. Length of stay depends on your mental health recovery goals and plan.
There are 20 self-contained, one-bedroom units, each with a fridge, cooking facilities, television, washing machine and linen.
This service is for people who are experiencing serious mental health issues and whose daily lives have been disrupted, making living independently difficult.

Wellways, offers a range of services, including meal preparation, personal care and domestic assistance from one hour up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

AUTISM: Minecraft Teamwork Academy (Ages 7-15) - Using Zoom so the location is anywhere.
We've been running this with 25 children for a couple of months and children are getting amazing new skills from interacting with others. This program highly recommended by speech therapists, OTs and psychologists.
The Minecraft Teamwork Academy is on Saturday mornings or Wednesday afternoons.
Your child can book in for a weekly timeslot (60 minute sessions).

Select Support Services is owned and operated by a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse. We offer support with complex care including PEG and stoma management, wound assessment and management, continence assessments and recommendations, SPC/IDC management, medication assessment and management including Diabetes and clinical reviews to support SIL applications.
Having established excellent relationships with Support Coordinators in Cairns, we are able to work collaboratively with your discharge planner in ensuring your transition from hospital to your home, is smooth and problem free. We are able to offer one off assessments or develop a long lasting relationship with supporting your ongoing care needs.

SCSCS provides specialist counselling for family issues including:
Family violence
Anxiety and depression
Teenage self-harm
Family separation

We use a direct therapeutic counselling approach coupled with family support and community education to:
Improve the wellbeing and safety of children, young people and their families
Build the capacity of families to nurture, care for and protect their children
Provide linkages to local universal support services/community groups to enable families to access the resources to build their capacity to solve problems and make positive choices and changes
Prevent entry or re-entry to the statutory child protection system.
For a client to be eligible:
The referred family has a child aged unborn to 18 years of age
The child/ren listed in the referral are not currently subject to intervention with Child Safety
Without support the child, young person and family are at risk of entering or re-entering the statutory child protection system
The family would benefit from access to intensive and specialist support services
The family has multiple and/or complex needs.

AccessAbility Services is a free and confidential support service. AccessAbility advisors are experience practitioners and have a professional background in Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation, Psychology and Education and have strong connections with academic, professional and support staff at JCU and within the wider community.
We understand that you may not identify your condition as a 'disability'. However, if your health condition is impacting in any way on your studies, even if temporarily, we are here to help.

Dr Siva Bala completed his graduate degree in Medicine at the University of Western Australia and became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) in 2007. He is also an International Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He has a certificate of advanced training in Adult Psychiatry and is a member of the Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry of the RANZCP.
Dr Bala has worked extensively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians and is currently chair of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health Committee of the RANZCP.
He has published book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals on Indigenous mental health, intellectual disability and suicide.
