Business Description

Specialist Behaviour Support services based in the Cairns region and services areas such as Port Douglas, Mossman and remote locations such as Cooktown.

A bit about me – I am a registered Behaviour Support Practitioner that has been assessed by the NDIS Commission as ‘suitable’ and I have been working in the Specialist Behaviour Support space for the past 5 years – all of which was within the Community Solutions Specialist Behaviour Support service where I was the Practice Leader for North Queensland (Mackay, Townsville and Cairns). Over the years, I provided clinical and managerial supervision to the Behaviour Support Practitioners and Allied Health Professionals (Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist and Provisional Psychologists).

I made the decision to return to back to the basics in behaviour support where I can focus on building relationships and to focus on delivering good quality services that achieved outcomes.

I am a qualified Social Worker having completed my undergraduate degree in Behavioural Science (Psychology / Disability Studies) at Flinders University of South Australia and a Master of Social Work at the University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom). I have worked as a Social Worker specialising in Adult Safeguarding and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards in the UK, and I am continuing my studies in the field by doing a Master of Disability Policy and Practice at Flinders University.

I have extensive experience in providing advice and guidance to Behaviour Support Practitioners, Implementing Providers, support workers and families, but also in writing Person Centred Positive Behaviour Support Plans, with a strong focus on trauma informed practice.  A key area of interest for me is supporting participants who are subject to Regulated Restrictive Practices. I am a strong advocate for ensuring the Positive Behaviour Support Plans are a meaningful resource that works towards reducing the frequency, intensity and duration of the behaviours of concern, and in turn reduce the need for the use of regulated restrictive practices.

Having seen the difficulties that regional areas had in being able to find suitably qualified and experienced practitioners to provide specialist behaviour support services, I am committed to ensuring a portion of my workload is protected to ensure regional areas have the same access as the more populated centres.
