Welcome to Being Me Therapies, a holistic and client centred service offering specialist OT and Social Work Services to the Cairns region. Being Me provides support to clients throughout adolescence and adulthood across a wide variety of areas. We have a specific and unique interest in supporting individuals with ADHD, and psychosocial health conditions, delivering expert care, innovative solutions and navigating the complexities of NDIS as well as other government support systems such as DSP, family tax, and Centrelink entitlements.
Our Occupational Therapist has been practicing for over 10 years and is highly competent in implementing client centred interventions that improve daily living skills, enhance independence, and promote overall well-being. Complementing these services, our Social Worker has been practicing for over 20 years in the Cairns region, and specialises in assisting adolescents as they transition into adulthood, particularly around the critical ages of 16 to 18. This support extends to guiding families through the complexities of the NDIS and Centrelink, ensuring our clients navigate these systems with ease and confidence.
We recognise that everyone is unique, with their own experiences and aspirations. This understanding is at the heart of our approach, guiding us to collaborate closely with you to develop personalised strategies that align with your individual needs and goals. We have a fundamental belief that each person should be actively engaged in their supports, and always strive to build capacity and independence of our clients.

I am a Certified Counsellor (CPCA) based in Cairns, providing individual counselling for adults and young people aged 14 and over.
I work with people who are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, burnt out, stuck, or navigating significant life changes. This can include stress, trauma, grief and loss, addictions, identity shifts, relationship challenges, ongoing emotional pressure, and periods of heightened distress. I also provide short term crisis support counselling when someone is going through an acute or destabilising period and needs steady, structured support. I support NDIS participants where counselling is an appropriate part of their plan.
My approach is trauma informed and grounded in practical, evidence-based therapies including CBT, solution focused therapy, Gestalt therapy, and emotionally focused work. I aim to provide a calm and steady space where you can talk openly about what is happening in your life, make sense of it, and begin building realistic strategies that actually fit your circumstances.
I understand that many people come to counselling feeling exhausted or unsure where to start. Sessions are collaborative and paced in a way that feels manageable. The focus is not on labels or quick fixes, but on helping you feel more regulated, clear, and confident in how you move forward.
Sessions are available in person in Cairns and via secure telehealth. After hours and limited weekend appointments are available.

MiHaven Training (RTO 40928) is a Cairns-based registered training organisation that has delivered nationally recognised qualifications since 2014.
We specialise in upskilling the workforce in Cairns, Innisfail and Atherton to care for those living with a disability with our CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability).
Students can also choose to further their studies with the CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support (Higher Level Skills) qualification. We also provide regular Manual Handling Awareness Training, as well as CPR and First Aid training, to further support the disability workforce in the Far North.

We provide specialised NDIS training for Participants and independent Support Workers. We give you a solid understanding of the NDIS, legislation and framework paired with practical tools and templates to run your business. Tertiary education such as a Certificate in individual supports are a great start but just don’t include NDIS knowledge and practical tools to get you started. Our expert trainer has worked extensively for the NDIS, has written and audited NDIS plans for quality assurance and has trained Local Area Coordinators in Far North Queensland. We know both sides of the system and the complexities that come with it and are true believers in the power of knowledge. Our training reflects this wealth of knowledge and includes a lot of practical real-life scenarios to refer back to. Mi Start offers Level 1, 2 and 3 Support Coordination and Recovery Coach supports.
Mi Start is provided by an independent Support Coordinator, Liz Barbara.
Mi Start will assist you to understand your NDIS Plan, manage your budget and connect with services to meet your needs and assists with Plan Reviews, Home and Living Applications and Change of Situations etc.
Liz Barbara has a Bachelor of Arts (in disability, psychology and business); Graduate Bachelor of Education and Early Childhood and a Postgraduate Certificate in Child Protection Practice.
Liz Barbara has worked as a Teacher for over 10 years; an Autism Advisor (at Autism Qld) for the Helping Children with Autism Funding for over 9 years and a Support Coordinator in Cairns for approximately 4 years. Liz has extensive experience working with children and families, young adults; as well as adults of all ages with ASD, physical and cognitive impairments and other needs.
