Local Special Events

There are a few special needs events throughout the year to look out for.  

circu quirkus.jpgTickets are usually sourced through your school, Autism Qld, ARC, Cairns Development Services, and Cairns Special Needs facebook group to name a couple.

Circus Quirkus Internationally renowned Clowns, Jugglers, Acrobats, and more deliver funny, hugely engaging and sometimes death-defying acts of unbelievable skill. The show is suitable for audiences of all ages, big and small.

World Festival of Magic is a Touring Illusion and Dance show, each ticket sponsored by local businesses so special needs families can attend. Hosted by the Lions Club of Cairns.
 

xmas.jpgCairns Special Needs Christmas Party. Usually on late Nov or early Dec. Your special needs child will get an invitation (up to 12yrs old) but the whole family can join in the celebration.
The Special Children’s Christmas Parties are the biggest events of their kind in Australia for special needs children and their families.
They provide a unique and valuable social and networking experience for children with special needs and their families in a fun environment while giving full consideration to the safety of involved.

FunFlight: Every Child Can Fly

Disability Action Week was traditionally held in September each year but in 2021 has moved to December to align with International Day of People with Disability This raises awareness of how Queenslanders can play their own role in creating an all abilities Queensland. … The week also aims to empower people with disability, raise awareness of disability issues, and improve access and inclusion throughout the wider community.


Another event ‘Come ‘n’ try a new sport’ at the Cairns All Abilities Sports Day held at the Cairns Esplanade. Keep an eye out on this event on facebook, listed on council events school, or through your networks.

Sensory Friendly Movie Screenings

EVENT Cinemas, Earlville put on monthly events.

Lights are dimmed throughout, no total darkness, sound is lowered, no booming bass, no lengthy previews, and movie starts on time. Children are free to move about from their seats as necessary.  For upcoming sessions see Events facebook page or website.

Our annual expo. This event is a fully open to the public and free to attend. Great chance to meet local providers, mingle and have a great day out.
