Mealtimes

Don’t let that food touch each other!! Wonder if you have heard that line before, or witnessed a full on meltdown because the carrot is touching the potatoe.. So here are some useful apps, products and ideas to make mealtimes less stressful.

People who have sensory issues are likely to have resistance to trying new foods because of the texture or taste and even colour.

The Toddler Tray does it all. It helps with the mess, the spills and, most importantly, your stress levels. The raised sides help control the mess and stops plates from sliding out of reach. The deep tray both helps contain liquid spills and keep the tray in place at the table edge. Visit Website but also

Scooper Plate
Suction cup base keeps the plate in place and reduces spilling accidents. High rim and reverse curve on one side aids in scooping food onto a utensil without spilling.

The bottom of the plate has a rubber suction base to prevent skidding. Molded of heat-resistant plastic. Google Scooper Plate as there are quite a few different kinds out there now.

There is also a facebook group called Mealtime Hostage – A Parent to parent peer support for selective eating (selective eating disorder (SED), Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)).

This group focuses on HOW to feed our family, including our extremely finicky / fussy / picky / selective / resistant eaters without pressure (coaxing, bribing, praise, rewards, coercion, sneaking, begging, force or threats). Lots of advice from others in the same situation.

Kids Funwares Mealtime Sets Shaped like Trucks and Planes

Back in the day, our parents had to pretend the fork was an airplane, zooming into a tunnel. And we liked it! Well, now kids can take their food on imaginary journeys all on their own with these fun plate and utensil sets for kids that look like dump trucks, airplanes, fire trucks, and tractors. They were designed to teach kids portion control, though we suspect they’ll also be used to help keep food from *gasp* touching!
