STEP 2

It is important that each student makes an appointment with an AccessAbility Officer and/or the student counsellor, for assistance with selection of and planning for a training course.

You can take, an associate or friend with you to the appointment.

To your appointment you need to take:

>     Recent academic or school results

>     Educational Adjusted Program (EAP) or Senior Education and Training (SET) plan

>     Appropriate medical evidence supplied by a medical practitioner, therapist or other allied health professional

>     Current resume or work history

STEP 3

At the time of enrolment:

>     Two forms of identification (one with your photograph, showing Queensland residential address)  are required to enrol

>     Fees are payable before you commence study

>     A health care card/pension card must be current for a concession rate to be applied

>     A QTAC application may be required for full-time diplomas

STEP 4

For AccessAbility Services to provide on-going assistance, appropriate medical/professional documentation must be supplied.

The documentation should be current and state the nature and duration of your condition, any treatment you are receiving, and the impact the disability or circumstances are having on your studies and exams.

The AccessAbility Officer will review your documentation and consult with identified students to undertake an assessment of the student’s support needs and develop an AccessAbility Plan detailing the proposed support services including any proposed reasonable adjustments.

A Consent to Release Information form is to be signed, which will ensure:

  • relevant information can be given to teachers, trainers, or other staff
  • further information can be requested
  • liaison can occur with your agency

An AccessAbility Officer will regularly review the support being provided.

STEP 5

AccessAbility Officers can arrange reasonable adjustments. Adjustments will consider the student, other students, teachers/trainers.

Adjustments could include:

>     Adaptive/assistive equipment or software

>     Additional time for exams and assessments

>     Flexible attendance and modes of study, including classroom-based, mixed-mode learning and online

>     Learning materials in alternative format such as Braille, electronic, large print or audio

>     Assistance from note takers, mentors and Auslan interpreters
