At Wellbeing Dogs Cairns, our dogs have gone through an extensive training program and are annually evaluated to ensure that we are compliant with legislation, adhere to the Australian Code of Conduct for the Animal-assisted Services, policies and procedures, with risk assessments in place for emotional assistance support dogs here in Cairns, Queensland. We offer our services at very reasonable rates, and we have full insurance.
Wellbeing dogs, often referred to as therapy or emotional support dogs, offer a myriad of benefits to individuals seeking improved mental and emotional health. These canine companions contribute to a sense of wellbeing by providing unconditional love, companionship, and a non-judgmental presence. Interacting with wellbeing dogs has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and feelings of loneliness, promoting a calming effect on their human counterparts. The act of petting or simply being around these dogs can trigger the release of oxytocin and serotonin, neurotransmitters associated with positive mood and bonding. Beyond emotional support, wellbeing dogs can also encourage physical activity through walks and play, contributing to overall physical health. In various settings, such as hospitals, schools, and workplaces, these dogs facilitate a positive atmosphere and create a sense of community, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of life for those they interact with.
Discover the transformative power of our wellbeing dog services, where the boundless benefits of canine companionship converge with your journey towards improved mental and emotional well-being. Through gentle interaction, these four-legged therapists stimulate the release of mood-enhancing neurotransmitters, fostering a sense of calm and connection. I have a specialisation in Animal Assisted Psychotherapy, however, over the years, I have used an eclectic approach to counselling, generally to fit with the needs of my clients, as of course we are all unique. I have developed an appreciation for the need of different modalities to bring about change using supportive, effective and evidence based approaches. Some clients feel more relaxed being able to sit and talk, others may need to go for a walk in nature while participating in a counselling session. Some may need some help to express their unconscious messages through expressive therapies. I would love to assist you to discover what works for you!
I have a Bachelor of Education and Master of Guidance and Counselling (2012) which has led me on an interesting path over the years, helping with post separation parenting, adult NDIS and child and adolescent related issues.
I have qualifications in Sand Play Therapy and Symbol work (2019), Circle of Security Facilitation (2021) and Animal Assisted Psychotherapy (2024).
Being able to tune in and trust the wisdom of your own body, feelings and whole being along with support can be a powerful tool for promoting mental and emotional well-being.
I welcome all who wish to be supported on their healing journey and would be honoured to witness that journey with you.
Confidential phone or Zoom appointments are welcome.
