We stand with the Deaf community, building capacity and influencing social change.
We are an NDIS registered service provider, interpreting agency, a nationally recognised provider of in-home care for seniors, and a registered training organisation for accredited training in Auslan.
Speech Language Pathology, Teacher of the Deaf and Psychology services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing infants, children, and adults, also provide specialised assistive technology assessments.
Can provide face-to-face support in Townsville, Cairns, and Mackay. We also provide online support over telehealth within
QLD and the NT.

Community based residential recovery care - CAIRNS
Sub-acute residential recovery care
A residential mental health recovery service that offers 24/7 mental health care, peer support and activities. The team includes community and clinical mental health practitioners, a family engagement worker and peer support worker. Planned programs provide a blend of group and one-to-one activities to support your needs and recovery goals. Staying at Cairns CCU is voluntary. Length of stay depends on your mental health recovery goals and plan.
There are 20 self-contained, one-bedroom units, each with a fridge, cooking facilities, television, washing machine and linen.
This service is for people who are experiencing serious mental health issues and whose daily lives have been disrupted, making living independently difficult.
Access is through referral by Queensland Health. Please speak with your case manager or clinician if you would like more information about this service.
Arafmi has provided free support for mental health carers in Queensland for 50 years.
Additionally, as the peak body for unpaid mental health carers in Queensland, Arafmi advocates for systemic reforms to government and service providers to make changes in carers lives.
In the Cairns region, Arafmi provides a range of face to face and online supports for people who assist someone with mental health needs.
This includes a 24-hour Carer Support Line, individual and group support and coaching, workshops and respite and retreat options.
Arafmi is funded by Qld Health and Wellways Carer Gateway to provide these programs.
Our local staff, based in the community and at the Cairns Wellways Carer Gateway hub, (141-143 Abbot Street, Cairns) provide information, coaching and support to assist carers in their lives and to access Carer Gateway and Arafmi programs.
We have a 24-hour Carer Support Line: 1300 554 660 (freecall).
Arafmi currently facilitates Carer Support Groups in Cairns and Atherton. These groups meet monthly. Registration to attend is easy; simply call the Carer Support Line.

Our overnight respite program offers carers a short-term break from their care giving responsibilities and clients the opportunity to socialise with other guests in a friendly, homely environment. Our employees are on site 24 hours a day, all support services are delivered by qualified and experienced support and all meals are freshly prepared.
Located at the Social Wellbeing Hub situated in a quiet residential area of Holloways Beach. We have made every effort to provide a home from home environment for our guests so as to maintain regular routines.

We are a group of parents who are advocating to have the Arrowsmith Program run in Cairns to help people with learning difficulties.
The goal of the Arrowsmith Program is to help participants strengthen the weak cognitive capacities underlying their learning dysfunctions and to enable them to become effective, confident and self-directed learners for life.
It is a Cognitive Therapy Program that does not teach content, but changes the participant’s capacity to learn so that they can understand, absorb, retain, process and use the content. This lays the foundation for learning by strengthening critical cognitive functions necessary for meaningful participation in society. It enables those participating to experience life with strengthened cognitive function and to succeed where before they struggled and often failed.
The program is open for use within a school curriculum or as a stand alone course for those beyond those early years.

DSQ aims to build community awareness, provide support and empower people with Down syndrome to take their rightful place in society. The organization offers support across the life span, and including the prenatal period. Various social programs are offered; and the Support Services team provides information, advice, support and advocacy to people with Down syndrome and their families / carers, along with training for professionals.
