National Joblink (NJL) is a dedicated not-for-profit, registered charity, and training organisation that has been empowering young people in our community for over 30 years. Our Cairns site is proud to introduce another program to our portfolio, School Leavers Employment Supports (SLES). SLES aligns perfectly with NJL’s broad range highly successful programs that focus on foundation skills and employability activities, building confidence, capacity, and motivation that ensure participants are well prepared for their chosen goals.
School Leavers Employment Supports (SLES) is designed to empower young people with a disability, aged 16-22, who have an active NDIS Plan or are eligible for NDIS support, and are in their final year or have recently left school. We personalise our supports and strategies to meet the unique needs of each participant. SLES is available for up to 2 years to assist in the transition from school. Our experienced and dedicated team has cultivated strong connections within the Cairns community, including local employers, training providers and community organisations. We work with participants to ensure they are equipped with the essential skills, confidence, and independence to achieve their chosen goals, based on their individual strengths and aspirations.
Our approach is flexible and personalised but may include – assistance in gaining confidence or knowledge to overcome challenges, empowerment to achieve personal and career goals, training in essential employability skills, support for health and wellness needs, team-building activities, assistance obtaining a driver's license, exploration of job and education opportunities, help with job searches and interviews, resume and cover letter writing, supported work experiences, guidance on interview attire and employer expectations, and ongoing one-on-one mentorship from start to finish.

NDIS School Leaver Employment Supports Program
The Maxima difference – for us, it’s all about building relationships. Our SLES program is created to provide an individual and holistic approach, tailored to each person’s unique needs and style. We work on a 1:1 basis and walk beside our customers to build their skills and confidence to achieve an end-goal of employment.
Whether it’s working on time management, body language, workplace behaviour or conflict resolution, we’ll customise a program to specifically target skills to help a person start a job and keep it!
Doing meaningful work that you enjoy can be very rewarding and satisfying –but it also has many other benefits, such as creating new friendships, building your confidence and earning your own money to spend on activities you enjoy.
We’ll consider your career goals, your abilities and skills, and we’ll also explore which jobs and industries most interest you – and we’ll work with you to build your capacity for work.
We’ll use our networks and consultants to find – or create – the right job opportunities for you, including relevant work experience openings. At Maxima we focus on your abilities, not your disabilities.
SLES is available to NDIS participants from the end of year 11, and for up to two years. An NDIS participant could have SLES available in their plan right up to the age of 22. This means our Cairns consultants can not only set a person up for job success, but also see them through for a meaningful start to a career.
